Ghosts of Wymering

The embalmed girl - Beth (Elizabeth) died from a fall down the main staircase. Died during the social season and her parents decided to have her embalmed and laid in her coffin until the social season had passed. Then they entered into a period of mourning. No year has been established for the date of death.
The Stairwell Nun - Stands on the semi spiral staircase to the attic. Has been seen stood at the top of the stairs with blood dripping from her hands. Not often seen but makes her presence known in other ways.
Choir of Nuns - Are said to cross the main hall at around midnight, chanting as they go.
Lady in Violet dress - This ghost has apparently only ever appeared once to an private owner of the Manor in the 1900's.
Room 6 (Panelled Rm) Victorian Lady - Thought to be the ghost of Miss Emiline Nightingale a permanent guest at the house in the late 1800's. She has been seen and sensed walking around the room, looking out of the window, before disappearing through what is now a sealed doorway. Also several people that have slept in this room have had dreams of a man hanging from a tree outside the window. One of the owners of the Manor who used room 6 as a bedroom used to experience a hand on his shoulder when he used to use the wash basin once located in the room.
The Victorian Man - Spotted 4 times between Feb 2002 and Oct 2002. He has been seen ducking down below the serving hatch in the dining room and also outside the Manor. Even a young boy staying at the house in 2002 spotted him and was able to give an accurate (compared to how other people had described him) description - dressed totally in black, with a tall black hat, tails, laced shoes etc. This figure is believed to be Sir Francis William Austen (brother of author Jane Austen). He had strong links with the church opposite the manor (he was churchwarden there). His grave is located in the churchyard opposite the main house.
Sir Roderick of Portchester (Reckless Roddy) - Story has it that a newlywed couple came to the house shortly after their marriage however the husband was called away from the house on short notice to deal with business affairs. Sir Roderick came to the Manor to attempt to seduce the young woman however her new husband returned home. Sir Roderick attempted to run from the property but was cut down by the husband as he tried to mount his horse.
The Black Terrier Dog and Tabby Cat - The cat is seen running around the house while the terrier dog is most often spotted or felt on the balcony.
The Monk/Suicide - The Monk has been seen on numerous occasions. He is dressed completely in black, is hooded but no facial features are ever seen. It is believed by some that this is not a monk but the ghost of a man who committed suicide in room 1 and is seen cloaked due to the guilt and shame he has for taking his own life. People affected by the monks/mans presence show signs of extreme distress, sadness and depression. A medium has given this monk/man the name John but no further details have ever been able to be traced.
Phantom Coach and Horses - has been seen pulling up the manors drive before disappearing.
Man in an old Wild West style hat has been seen leaning up against walls in the house.
Cook - This apparition has only been seen by 2 people and is described as wearing an old flop cap and carrying a ladle.
Baby crying - heard by many visitors emanating from a room upstairs but people can never find the room it appears to come from.
(All details have been kindly supplied by Dave Scanlan, former Manager of Wymering Manor and Founder of the Hampshire Ghost Club)

Personal Reports

Julie Harwood

I was really looking forward to this investigation. Returning to Wymering for what could be the last time filled me with excitement and dread. My previous visits to the Manor had filled me with an irrational fear and this was something I wanted to conquer.
Our first vigil was on the first floor. There were quite a lot of us in the team and so we headed for the largest area (what were the Vanguard Room & The Hood Room). We all stood around the outside of the room and soon after we started calling out Maureen felt someone was behind her and Maria also felt that the building on a whole had religious links and that we should all be sat down. We all did this but the room to me felt so crowded (even though it was not really) and so I decided to split the team in two and for some reason subconsciously split it by sex. The men went to investigate the other rooms and Maria, Di, Jan, Maureen and myself stayed put. Jan decided to call out using the dowsing rods to receive any responses and even though it was very dark, you could hear the rods clanging when they crossed. She seemed to pick up on a female spirit but I will let her notes explain as to be quite honest I cut off at this point. This was not because I was not interested but because I felt very sick. Maria and Jan had smelt rotting vegetables or cabbages and Di was getting some strange pains in her neck and chest. While I was sat contemplating why I felt so sick from behind me I heard a chuckle or giggle but it could not have been the other team as they were all male and the chuckle was definitely female. This made me jump and it is then that I saw a light flash across in front of me. Luckily Di had also seen the same thing at the same time. Maria also saw a light flash behind me when I said I heard the chuckle. After a while the men rejoined us and the room seemed to fall quiet again. Myself, Di and Maria then went into the front bedroom and the panelled walls fascinated Di. She felt there used to be windows there. We called out and a few cold spots were felt yet we could feel no draught from the windows, which was strange.
After a quick break we started our vigils on the ground floor. We all went into the dining room, which had the most disgusting smell of something rotting. It smelt like the roots of a plant that had been over watered and then subsequently rotted but we sniffed the couple of plants in the room and they smelt fine (plus 1 was plastic). We called out but all seemed quiet. I did feel like someone was walking amongst us but I don't know why I felt this. The team then decided to split and myself, Ross, Maria and Wayne stayed in the dining room (Wayne and I determined to face our fear). We sat where we had been sat on our previous visits and Wayne and I did admit this made us feel a bit more uncomfortable. We opened a glass divination and did get some movements. We called out for the admiral that had been picked up on previous visits and the glass seemed to respond and (maybe foolishly) we tried to goad him into moving the glass more. For most of the divination the glass seemed to come to me or between Wayne and myself and then tried on numerous occasions to fall off the edge of the table. The temperature around mine and Maria's hands was 3 degrees lower than the rest of the room and on several occasions Maria felt like her hand was being held. Wayne also had a cold spot around his legs. We felt a little unnerved but were very much in control of the situation unlike last time we were there.
After a slightly longer break we headed back upstairs and Wayne, Ross, Steve and myself sat on the balcony and in one of the rooms but unfortunately picked up on nothing unusual.
For our last vigil Maria, Ross, Wayne and I headed for the Music room where we attempted to use the Ouija board. The planchette moved but made no sense so we decided to switch to using the glass. This room was icy cold and no matter how many layers of clothes we put on we could not warm up. Maria and I even put our gloves on yet Wayne was strangely very warm and his hands were like he had had them on a heater. The glass moved but very weakly and just as Wayne had the image of a little girl pop into his head so did I. We called out for her but Wayne got the feeling that she was unsure of whether she should talk to us or not. At this point Wayne got a little emotional and had tears in his eyes, which is not normal for Wayne! Maria was also thinking the word Mercy while we were in this area.
An absolutely fascinating night at the Manor, a place that never fails to produce some results even if it is light anomalies on pictures or strange sounds on dictaphone. Thank you to Alan for allowing us to visit the Manor again. We wish you the best of luck renovating Wymering and thank you for saving one of the South's oldest buildings!

Mark Pettet

Having a more fruit full journey and being first there and last to leave, Wymering proved to me to be an interesting place. Base line tests were carried out by myself on EMF Ross on Temp and Alison recording the findings. Temperature readings varied from floor to floor and room to room, EMF was rather quiet in most of the building except in wash room, behind dining room, had a few fluctuations when cupboard door opened on its own (witnessed by Diana). When the team split to their designated floors team 1 was on first floor, the large room at the back. Julie and other members heard faint voices and a cough but they could of come from downstairs by team 2. Team 1 split again. Ladies stayed in that room and the guys moved onto the room at the front with a joining room behind. Myself, Wayne, Ross, Simon and Steve did not experience anything out of the ordinary. Few orbs caught on stills cameras. Moved back to back room where the ladies were having success with a spirit using the dowsing rods. After a quick break team split into smaller groups and covered 3 areas on that floor. Vigils of my team were unsuccessful though glass divination seemed productive for the teams conducting them. All in all had a great time well worth the visit.

Elias Kupfermann

This was my very first investigation - I really didn't know what to expect but went to it with an open mind and thought probably nothing would happen - How wrong I was.
As I was driven up the drive in my taxi this imposing house looked empty and peaceful with its mock Tudor well looming out of me. This feeling of peace was felt throughout the investigation with a few exceptions which will be mentioned later on in this report.
I entered the Great Hall the house and in every part of this room were people beavering away every sort of gadget imaginable. I then realised not only was this going to be a personal exploration of the past put one huge scientific experiment which gave the whole evening a very highly professional air with gadgets ranging from motion detectors to EMF readers all totally new pieces equipment to me.
I sat down on a chair next to a table with a fireplace to the back of me and before the evening had begun was experiencing things which I could not explain. I felt a cold breeze and the back of my neck - at first I thought it was the fireplace but could not find any draughts coming from their and asked a number of people to check this for ma and they could feel any drafts. This breeze was accompanied by a flowery perfume which other people near to me could also smell. No one present was wearing that perfume.

THE VIGILS

The Music Room

This was the first room we went into and we all felt a great deal of peace here. At first there was no sign of any presence of spirit despite calling out and using dowsing rod. A little later I felt a breeze coming from the doorway and took a photograph through the doorway and on the photo were two orbs were observed - could the orbs and the breeze be connected?
We then decided as a group to move into the Great Hall to see what could be picked up there.

Dining Room

Nothing was really picked up in here and we tried glass divination and got no real results though out hands went cold at one particular point. We tried to contact the Admiral but had no luck. This was tried later in the evening with no results.

The Great Hall

The atmosphere in the Great Hall was totally different from the Music Room but not menacing and was slightly colder. During out time in this room a bang was heard from the staircase where Alison was sitting after she has asked if any one was with us and she then complained of a headache. A few minutes later my camera captured an orb on the carpet next to the door to the Dining Room. A little later I felt the breeze I had felt earlier on that evening but the flowery perfume was not present - I was sitting in the same place as I had done earlier. I took a photo looking towards the door to the back corridor and captured on camera this very strange mist which virtually blocked out the adjacent flower arrangement - but the mist itself was translucent. I tried to replicate this just in case it was something I had made happen by blocking the lens or the flash by my finger - but this mist could not be replicated.
Later on that evening I was back in the Great Hall and we decided to try glass divination which produced some amazing results - we made contact with two spirits - the first was a gentleman who lived alone in the house in the 1690's - he died from a duel with his cousin over money in a tavern in Southsea. The cousin was either killed or executed.
The second was a very strong willed lady called Emily who was a nurse in the 1830's who had a child who died of Chicken Pox - a boy aged c.11 yrs old and is buried in the adjacent churchyard. Emily had a second child a daughter by a second lover and was the Lady of the house. The first lover, however murdered her by cutting her throat.

The Room with large bay - room 5

Apart from being freezing cold nothing was felt or was revealed.

The Chapel (YHA Kitchen)

No one was contacted - though an orb was revealed on camera.
Room with ornate fireplace - adjacent to room with scaffolding There was something felt here in terms of temperature changes and breezes as if someone or something was circling the room - though was nothing was felt in the areas near the fire place or windows. An orb was picked on film in part of the room. I w was thought that this room contained residual energy of some sort.
One interesting thing was some mist was picked up on my camera on Brian's Knee.

Altogether an exciting night for me an absolute beginner - I felt calm all through the evening and enjoyed the experience - can't wait for the next one!

Wayne Blyth

I was so looking forward to this return visit, as I had a mission to accomplish. From our previous visits, I found myself being extremely fearful of the dining room, for no reason I could think of. My objective was to stay in the dining room for as long as possible, without running out. My previous record is 20 minutes!!!

When we arrived, we quickly set to our tasks. For us, it was to the first floor. We settled into room 2 and very quickly I started picking up quite impressive "orbs" even being able to follow them with the camera for several seconds. I would unfortunately, be inclined to think that most, if not all, were particles of dust as we did observe that the carpets were quite dusty!
Myself, Mark, Steve, Ross and Simon ventured in to a different room, leaving the girls in room 2. We were not able to pick anything up in these other rooms so we decided to rejoin the girls. They appeared to be in contact with someone via dowsing rods, but I shall let others explain. I did manage to pick up other "orbs" or dust particles. I decided to try and replicate the orbs by rubbing the carpet in front of the camera and could quite clearly see the same thing in the viewfinder. However, none of these actually acted like the ones I was able to follow.
After break, it was downstairs and to the dining room. I must admit that I didn't actually feel scared this time, but as we settled into our previous positions, things started to happen. Myself, Maria, Ross and Julie tried glass divination and suddenly found ourselves surrounded by cold spots. Julie tried mentioning the Admiral we had picked up on previously and straight away we observed movement of the glass. We (rightly or wrongly) decided to goad the presence into action with some success. However, far from being scared, it was quite the opposite. I felt fine all the time there.
Another break and quickly to our next vigil. Back upstairs and into room 2. Unfortunately this time, there was nothing to report. Except for the occasional knock and the odd orb. Steve, sitting at the top of the stairs reported that his camera, sitting beside him, shifted positions.
Next was to be in what is now the music room. Again, Ross, Maria, Julie and myself attempted glass divination, with some success. Strangely, Julie and Maria reported feeling extremely cold, even having to put their gloves on to keep warm. I was sat directly next to Maria and I was feeling very warm. I put my hands on to Julie's and Maria's and there was a marked difference. My hands were as warm as toast! I suddenly pictured in my mind a little girl, looking up at her mother, not quite sure whether she was allowed to move the glass. At that point there was a gasp from Julie, apparently she had sensed the same thing at the same time. I have never been one for sensing things, so to suddenly feel myself unhappy and actually in tears was very strange.
All through this investigation, something strange was happening. According to other groups' reports, there is a history of in-fighting. Apparently other groups report bickering to a great degree. We could not be more opposite. Every time we visit Wymering, it seems that we all start to enjoy ourselves so much. To the point of giggling and laughing all during our breaks.

This has to be one of the best places in the country to investigate. Every visit brings new experiences and phenomena. Still not convinced though.

Maria Street

This location is situated in what looks like the middle of a housing estate. It is in a very unassuming position and would be hard to spot even though it is right on the corner! I travelled down with Di in her car. It was nice to be only 25 minutes away! After setting up and a short break, we split in to our two teams. I was in team 1 with Julie and Wayne as team leaders. Our first vigil was in a first floor room which was on two levels. I stood for a little while, but had an overwhelming need to sit down. Di also felt like this, so we all did this together. Di felt a pain in her chest and wondered if the room or building was used as a makeshift hospital for people with lung disorders. After sitting in silence for a while, I had the feeling that this building had religious connotations, which was confirmed by Maureen, who does voluntary work here. I kept getting the words, "holy orders". I also felt that a serious crime, such as a murder had been committed here. We split up and the men went into another room whilst Julie, Di, Jan and I stayed. I noticed a strong smell of rotten cabbages which the others also noted. Julie and Di noticed a moving orb with their naked eye and the digital cameras also picked them up. A question and answer session followed with Jan holding the divining rods. She ascertained that we were speaking with a nurse. A rather confusing conversation then took place, but it was understood that the lady had a child and that although the child had crossed over, the lady remained because she felt safe from a man who had done her wrong. The men rejoined us and Jan continued to question the nurse, but our time was soon up. After another break we went to the ground floor and we all went in to the dining room, which also had a very strong smell of rotten cabbages, which was attributed to a pot plant in the corner, but I smelt the plant and it didn't smell at all. I noticed a small red light in the corner of the room, which didn't seem to have any natural causes. We split into three teams and I stayed in the dining room with Julie, Wayne and Ross. We started with a Ouija board session, using the planchette, which was very hesitant. Julie had an overwhelming feeling that we should be using a glass, so, I went off to grab one. An interesting time followed with an Admiral, who really didn't like us all that much! The glass flew straight away and kept trying to go off the edge of the table! The rest of the team came to join us and the glass continued in much the same vein. We then finished for break and then continued our investigation upstairs, but this proved very quiet for our team of me, Mark and Maureen. Apart from an overwhelming need to lie down whilst on the balcony, (which me and Mark did) there really wasn't much to report at all. In our last team, there was Julie, Wayne, Ross and me. We went into the music room which was bitter cold. It was time for hat, scarf and gloves! We did glass divination and made contact with what Wayne and Julie both felt to be a little girl. It was as though she felt that she shouldn't be doing this and it seemed as if her mother was with her. Wayne felt as his this was a clergyman's wife and this is why they were so reluctant to make contact. Wayne became quite emotional and sat back for a while. I remember that it was very cold and my hands were like ice blocks, but Wayne's were as warm as toast! When the vigil came to an end, we made our way back to the dining room where some of the team were. Di joined us for another go at contacting the admiral with the glass, but he was as obstinate as before! Quite an eventful evening in certain places and a place I would like to revisit to investigate further, I'll just take my duvet next time!! I'd like to thank the owner and the caretaker for allowing us the use of the building for the night. Merry Christmas everybody!!!

Alison Blyth

This was my third visit to the manor, so I know we all had a treat in store for us.
We started our vigils downstairs so I decided to split the group into two teams so we were able to cover a bigger area. My team consisted of Elias. Rachael, Adam, Amanda and myself. We started off in room 5. It was cold in here but not uncomfortable. We called out but unfortunately we didn't really get a response, the thing that struck me as strange was the way my group had become quite giggle like School kids. I have to add that I am included in this. I usually take all investigations seriously as I want to experience everything, but for some reason in three areas I was giggly.
Half way through the vigil we did change areas as we heard a loud bang in the main hallway area. I knew that there was no-one there as the other half of my group were in the dining room so we all ventured out to see what was going on. For some reason I did feel very apprehensive despite feeling quite comfortable earlier. I did sense a quite oppressive atmosphere which I believe was being caused by a male spirit. I sat on the stairs and Amanda the other side, Elias sat at the table and Adam on the chair backing onto the dining room.
We called out and I did feel very jumpy for some reason, and a loud bang was heard directly behind me. I asked the team upstairs whether they had made a noise on my walkie talkie but for some reason I didn't get a reply from them so I can only assume that the noise was on our floor as I had no other explanation for it. Breezes were felt by other members and some very interesting photos were taken which I personally will be interested in seeing as they were very strange indeed. On our upstairs vigils, personally I didn't really sense anything out of the ordinary but the team were in unusually high spirits for some reason. I must admit, Wymering has always fascinated me for the way it affects people. It seems to either make people come out of their shell or become edgy and paranoid. That in itself, to me is worth a mention. All in all I had a fantastic evening and despite this being my third visit, I would go back as the building always seems different every time.

Jan Coles

Team One Julie - Team Leader, Wayne - Team Leader, Di, Steve, Simon, David, Maureen, Ross, Maria, Jan

On the tour of Wymering Manor House captured a possible six orbs in the former Chapel/kitchen, close by Alison and Di.

Upstairs

Room with Priest hole.

Captured on camera two possible orbs on the beams, and up to six in different areas of room - could be same orbs each time.
Maria had strong sensations of a female religious, possibly nursing, order. She also felt the sign of the cross was very relevant to the Manor.
Maria felt that she, in fact all of us should be sitting. Perhaps as patients would be in beds.
Di felt her chest compressing, a sore throat and painful neck down one side.
A strong smell of cooked cabbage began to occur on the fireplace side of the room mainly. We believe this may have been nutritious to both the nuns (?) or patients alike. It waxed and waned over the time we were in this location.
Wayne caught something moving on the digital video camera, towards the centre of the room
Simon felt that something had moved from him to the centre of the room.
I felt the right hand side of my neck aching.
Captured tiny possible orb by Maureen's left foot
Maria suggested TB and we called out using the terms Consumption and Tuberculosis.
Several of us had heard what could have been either a brief, racking, hollow cough or a child's cry outside the door of this room and also from the centre of the room.
Di suddenly realised that her left hand was outstretched, as if holding her hand out for food or some comfort perhaps. We tried calling out to any male priests to no avail.
Di saw butterflies in front of her as we left the room, in the hallway upstairs.

Double Room

No response to calling out or photography or movement of coins as trigger objects.

Minstrels Gallery Vigil - Simon, Di, Jan

Di sees a white mist at the left hand side of the balcony, near the stairs; travel over balcony and towards the wall over the front door.
Simon sat on the bottom of the stairs and three possible orbs were captured on camera, one small on the 9th step at the top, one medium sized half way down and one large on the 6th step up. Di and I were talking about the front door and porch, and an orb was photographed at the bottom of the right hand door.
Heard 'Ding' as if a brass pot had been twanged, after calling out. Could have been wall heater below cooling or heating up.
Di walked up the stairs to see if any spirits were present by looking for orbs and one was captured on top of her head. Orb hovered by tinsel then sped off, over the balcony and vanished.
Maximum of four orbs captured on camera in one shot during this time, on the stairs.

Two roomed vigil - Maureen, Jan

Mo dowsed with a crystal to encourage a spirit child she had met before with some success. Crystal swung in response to questions asked.

Break

Caught on camera two orbs by Amanda and Maureen on the right hand Hall stairs, as you go in.

Downstairs
Red Painted Fireplace Room -
No response to calling out, photography, crystal divination and dowsing rods.
Music Room - Maureen, Simon, Jan
No response to calling out, photography, crystal divination and dowsing rods.

Dining Room

No response to calling out. Wayne described feeling sick at this point.
Break attempted photography in the garden and captured a tiny orb right at the top of a tree, near a window of the manor by the back door. Also a possible face in a window could be a monkey.
Explored Cellar, where two strong orbs were captured on camera, as we entered and as we left. One tiny orb was captured on Ed's chest. Two tiny ones also captured. Alison, Ed, Amanda, Adam, Jan,

Upstairs

Two roomed vigil - Di, Simon, Jan
Called out. No response. Simon asked if any Spirits were present could they show us by moving the coins (trigger objects deliberately left) in the next room, to no avail.
Sat on the floor by the window of the timbered room and linked fingers. As Simon spoke words of protection, I felt as if a feather had gently brushed my left hand.
After many unsuccessful attempts to get a response, we left the room.

Room with Priests Hole - Di, Simon, Jan

Di saw 2 orbs right in front of her for the first time without the use of a camera.
Captured orb on the beam over the fire.
We opened the door into the Priests Hole and asked if there were any spirits who could close the door. The door appeared to move a small way, but we are still unsure of this.
Captured orb on windowsill.
I used divining rods and appeared to contact a woman, who described herself as a nurse. I asked if she was a medical nurse who card for sick people and she said no. She intimated that she had two children and lived in the house. She was happy and felt safe here. Also contacted a former Lady of the House who was pleased that we were in her home and welcomed us.

Break

Captured orb in Red Painted Fireplace Room, from the Hall. Also orb on Julie.

Dining Room - Di, Elias, Maureen, Jan

Used glass and contacted a male, weak response.

Hall - Glass. Di, Elias, Steve, Mo, Jan

Male - very weak. Small, weak
Male spirit indicated that he was from around 1690's and was a soldier.
He was the Master of the house.
He was killed by his cousin in a sword duel, in a tavern in Southsea.
The Duel was over money, a great deal of, which the cousin refused to pay.
The cousin lost his life as he was found guilty of the murder in Southsea.
The Master indicated that he had seen his cousin after their deaths and got on, but they both still argued over the money issue.
Female - very, very strong. Large powerful circles from the glass. Immensely strong, fairly fast. Not malicious, just making her point understood. 'Yes' answers went to Jan, 'No' to Elias.
Indicated that she had been a nurse (I am unsure if a children's nurse or a medical nurse). No definite date from her. The Spirit intimated that her name was Emily; she had a little boy who had died of Chicken pox and was buried in the churchyard of the Manor, opposite. Emily was also buried here.
Emily said she had found love with a new man and had a little girl with him.
She responded with a very definite YES when asked if her life had been taken from her in this house.
Emily indicated that her murder was achieved by having her throat cut.
A very definite YES when asked if it was the Father of her little boy who had taken her life.
Emily very definitely indicated that her daughter grew up to be the Lady of the House and felt that this had been done to spite her Mother's killer.
Emily said she was happy -ish. She could come and go if she pleased, into Wymering Manor. Her murderer could not. So she felt safe, but returned to remind him. Odd given the murderer wasn't in the house but perhaps could see her from outside where maybe he was grounded??
Di and I both had information sent to us 'from nowhere', into our minds, which we both used to ask certain questions. Di, I believe because she too is a Mother, was given information from Emily on her children. I was given information as to the manner of Emily's death and her relationships. We finished the session by thanking the spirits who contacted us.
Spirits seemed reluctant to give us a time scale for their physical lives - could be many explanations for this.

Maureen Taylor

Vigil 1 - First floor

We started out in one of the larger rooms on the first floor (unfortunately I can't recall which room it was). All of us were standing at first - there were only two chairs in the room and ten people. I crossed the room and sat in one of the chairs. As we started the vigil someone, I think it was either Di or Maria, that they felt that they ought to sit down, so a decision was made that everyone in the group should sit. The temperature was fluctuating all the while we were in the room - between about 10 and 13 degrees. Maria was sitting to my left at the other side of the room and Maria at the other end of the room. We called out but got little in the way of results by this means. I could feel someone standing behind me, in fact, I believe that I had two people with me - one was Beth (housemaid from Marwell Hall in the 1760s/1770s), my usual companion on these nights; and I feel that the other was connected with Wymering Manor in some way. As we were asking questions and some of the group were making comments I was getting reactions from the two (or more?) spirits standing with me - unfortunately at the moment I am unable to either see or hear them, but I can sense their emotions and with Beth very often have a good idea of what she is trying to tell me, so I was getting answers of a sort to our questions.

Whoever had the camcorder (can't remember who it was, might have been Simon or Ross) suddenly said that there was an orb right beside me, and a few minutes after that Maria said that she could actually see an orb close by Julie and Di - she'd never seen one other than on camera before (about 9.05pm). Another one about two minutes later, and yet another a minute or less, after that.

After a while I suggested to Jan that she tried my dowsing rods (I have yet to have any success with them, but I know they often work for her). We had more success with our questioning once the rods were in use, and determined that the spirit in the room with us had been a nurse at one time, possibly sometime between the 1880s and about 1920 - we didn't get any closer than that till later in the night in another location.
She told us that she wasn't at the manor by choice, but felt safe there, because the man who killed her is unable to reach her while she is in the manor.

After this we split into smaller groups and headed for different rooms….

The room Jan and I went to felt very empty and very calm, nothing seemed to be going on … Beth was still with me, so I got out my pendulum (she seems quite happy to answer my questioning using the crystal pendulum, though not so far with the rods), and asked her if were were correct in thinking that there was no spirit activity in the room - she confirmed that we were.

Vigil 2 - Dining room

It was down to the ground floor for our next vigils - and this was the room that Julie and Wayne were very apprehensive about…. But as far as I am aware they had no problems in there this time….
After spending just a short while in the dining room we split up into smaller groups again. Jan, Simon and I headed for the Morning Room (known as room 5 on our previous visit to the manor). Here we encountered what was possibly once the lady of the house, though we were unable to establish when this was. The only information we got from her was that she was - sorry, is - unhappy.

Next we moved on to the Music Room now looking very different with all the YHA furniture gone and the partitions dividing it removed - quite a grand room now. Once again we had little activity, James could feel a draught past his right ear at one point, but as we could find no explanation for it we assume it was someone trying to communicate with us. Not long after that the walkie-talkie battery suddenly died.

Vigil 3 - back upstairs again

This time we split into smaller groups. My group went first to the room with the exposed timber-framing - one of the older parts of the building. We only had about 20 minutes in each area, but during the time we were in this room several orbs were caught on the camcorder, mostly moving from the area around the fireplace. We then moved on to the room we had started the night with, but the atmosphere was quite different this time and we felt nothing here.
Finally we went out onto the balcony area, nothing seemed to be happening, but we all suddenly felt exceedingly tired, and wanted to lie down and go to sleep, right there on the floor….

Vigil 4 - back downstairs again.

Unfortunately I didn't manage to take much in the way of notes here, but…
In the dining room a glass had been left on one of the tables to be used if we wanted to - so we did. Myself, Elias, Di and one of the others (sorry, can't remember which) sat down around the table and began asking questions, but no movement of the glass; however, both the men said they could feel a definite draught across their hands, so Elias, knowing something of the history of the manor, asked if the Admiral was with us, but we got no definite reply. Our time here was up, so we went out into the main hall. At the beginning of the evening Elias had caught a strange red mist on his camera, and I had a feeling that things might be happening in there rather than in some of the other rooms, so I suggested that we take the glass out into the hall and try it there - Amanda had brought her folding picnic table with her so we set it up….and got some very interesting results from our questioning. First of all we had a gentleman with us, who we believe to have been Admiral Austin, a previous owner of the manor. He informed us that he had not died of natural causes, but was murdered in an argument over some substantial gambling debts. He said he was killed by a cousin, in a tavern in Southsea. After a while the answers slowed down and ceased, and the glass started circling the table slowly, we asked if there were any other spirits who wanted to come and talk to us - and a lady in her mid to late thirties introduced herself, we believe we were talking to the same spirit as we had talked to earlier in the night up in one of the first floor rooms. Again she told us she was a nurse, but also said that she had a son by her lover. The lover had killed her - had slit her throat, not sure how the son died, but she said he did not survive into adulthood. She later had a daughter with another lover, the daughter living to become the lady of the manor.
We continued our vigil in the main hall rather than move on after our 20 minutes, as we were getting some interesting information coming through. This was the most active and interesting session of the night for me, and it was unfortunate that we had to close it down, we had run out of time - - - as so often happens.

It was a pleasure to be doing an investigation in this ancient building once again, and as usual, some interesting happenings during the night

This is my 2nd investigation and what a beautiful building this is. First of all we had a tour of the building with Alison, and I did some baseline tests before we started the vigils. I was in team 1 and we started on the first floor and started to call out for spirits. I found the first room very peaceful and did not pick anything up. Some of the team had like chest and neck pains and also Maureen picked up someone near her. I took a picture near Maureen and seemed to have picked up an orb, but apart from that everything seemed quiet for me. We then split the team up and moved around the first floor in different rooms and called out but no response and no sounds. Later on we went down to the dining room on the ground floor and it smelt really horrible. Maria, Wayne, Julie & I did the glass divination and the glass did move around but the spirit seemed very weak and did not want to communicate with us. I looked around and I felt quite uneasy in this room also did not like the hatch which was near me where I was sitting, it felt like someone was looking through at us and did not want us around. Next we went to the Music room which was ice cold and found it so difficult to keep myself warm, we got the Ouija board out and called out but the spirit was again so weak, we got a couple of letters and numbers but it did not make any sense so we closed it down and tried the glass which we managed to pick up a young girl who seemed to be scared and moved the glass slowly then stopped then moved a little again. At this point Wayne had tears in his eyes and got quite emotional. After a little while we decided to leave the room as we were not picking much up and getting too icy cold. The investigation was coming to an end now but as we came out of the chapel room into the corridor and everyone moved into the main hall and at that point I stayed behind in corridor as i needed the toilet, as i was going to towards the toilet I felt that horrible feeling again as someone was watching me, I did not like the corridor something was there and i noticed that's where the hatch was which goes into the dinning room which i felt that feeling earlier, I moved out pretty quick into the main hall again where everyone was. Wymering was an interesting place and I am glad I had the chance to investigate it. Would like to thank the owner for letting us investigate one last time. Until next time sleep tight.

Arriving at Wymering Manor for 7pm we said our hello's. I sat on a chair and got my crystal out for the first time at one of our investigations, but it felt right. I asked if we were going to have any activity this evening and it answered yes. I asked if the building was haunted to which it also gave a positive response.
7.30pm we then had a tour of the building. We walked round and it was like a labyrinth. In one door of the passageway, through another, into rooms and out somewhere else. Amazing! In the drying room downstairs both Mark and I watched as the grey cupboard door opened seemingly on its own. We just looked at each other! The investigation had not even started. 8.30pm Vigil 1. I was in team 1, which was starting on the first floor. After going into several rooms we settled on the largest room. As soon as I got there I felt I wanted to sit down. We all sat on the floor. After a little while the men then went off to investigate the other rooms which just left 5 ladies. I got a pain in my chest and then in my lungs. We asked if any spirits were in the room. Jan had dowsing rods which we asked questions to. We seemed to get a female, nurse that had had a child. She had been murdered. There was also a strong smell of cabbage water and I saw my first floating orb with the naked eye. It was not very large but it was also confirmed by Julie as she also saw it. Brilliant! We then split into smaller groups nothing much happened to me that I can remember apart from in the panelled room. The panels looked like they could have been windows or a priest hole. I kept looking at this wall, I did not like it.
Vigil 2 was on the ground floor. We all went into the dining room but nothing. Once again we split into smaller groups. I went with Steve and Mark to the Music room, this was very cold. I did not like this room when we had our tour. I did not like it and needed to find a place to sit where I could feel safe. We called out but nothing. Mark got some orbs on his camcorder just before we left. We went back to the dining room with the others and they were doing a glass divination on the table. It was moving so we asked some questions too and I joined the circle.
Vigil 3 - Back to the first floor. My group went onto the balcony. Jan took photo's and on one of them she captured 2 orbs on the stairs leading up to the private accommodation. One was on the sixth step and the second on the ninth step. We then sat down but nothing happened.
Vigil 4 - Back to the ground floor. We split into smaller teams again and I went with Steve and Mark. When we went into a room at the front of the manor we put a glass on the table and started calling out. We found there were 2 spirits in this room, one male and one female and they died at sea but liked coming back to the Manor. It seemed like they died in or on a war vessel. Not a warship but some other ship. Another group came in and we decided to join them in the hall as we could get no more from the glass.
We all sat around the table in the hall and opened a glass divination. I joined in and we asked questions and the glass started to move. I asked if it was the nurse and it moved to say yes. It went on to confirm that she had fallen pregnant by the son of the owner. Her son died at an early age with chicken pox. She then took another lover and had a daughter but her first lover (the father of her son) did not like it so he murdered her by slitting her throat. Her daughter reached adulthood and bought the Manor as revenge for her mother's ill treatment. We got the name Emily which we think was the daughter. Around 2am people started coming back so we closed the divination as the evening was coming to a close. We tidied up and departed at 2.30am.

Thank you for another interesting evening. Merry Christmas and a very Happy and Spooky New Year to all!

We arrived at Wymering Manor at about 19.00. The Manor is becoming like a second home to Southern paranormal, we always experience something or another and for me this night was going to be no different.
My team's first vigil of the night was in what we know as the Dinning room. I still felt that someone or something was in there watching us and as always what ever it was is not very friendly and did not want to come out of the corner even with calling out a few taps and knocking sounds where heard this I think I will put down to the team upstairs.
At 20.45 the a lap top set up for recording EVP which was on the table next to me switched its self off. It was working one minute and not the next was this down to faulty house wiring I don't know but it was very strange. At 21.00 all in my team heard what sounded like a child whimper and no cause could be found.
We then moved into room 5 this again is a room I don't like in the past it has always been bone chillingly cold but this night the room felt fine warm and calm.
After a break and a change of n/v camcorder tapes we went to our next vigil, Room number or name unknown all I know it had an old fashioned lookout window. The only thing that seemed to be happen was an icy cold breeze going across our faces and we where sat against the walls around the room but nothing was felt in the middle of the room was this a natural draft coming from under the door but going to the door nothing was felt.
My team's next vigil was in the chapel. Now this area was very cold most probably down to a stone floor. We started calling out, asking for the usual thing like tapping or knocking sounds I'm not sure if it was my imagination but I thought I heard the chair creak a though someone had sat in it but none of the rest of the team heard it. We all did hear what sounded like a moan by the door into the chapel. We then moved into the music room I found this room very quiet there was a light anomaly caught on night vision and again a light cold breeze across my face when we called out but know response.
After a short break we made our way upstairs room 6 again an icy called breeze was going across my face as we sat around the room as though it was going from one member to another I started to get a real bad head ache which went as soon as it come now that t me was strange as I felt ok when entering the room.
One of our members Amanda was have a go on a crystal pendulum. I'm not to sure what I think about this sort of divination but what ever it was doing it was answering the questions that where being asked. Amanda was asking if there was a female spirit with us. It was moving in the direction of yes but it did not seem sure. I asked if the spirit was of mixed sexual gender the crystal seemed to go straight to yes. Now knowing some of the past history of Wymering I was not surprised at this answer. We could not seem to get anymore information out of the spirit it seemed as though someone was stopping him from answering any of our questions I still wonder if it was something to do with the negative spirit who wonders the down stairs I will never know.
Again another very good investigation at Wymering Manor a big thank you to the people of Wymering for letting us investigate.

With great expectations of this place i thought this would be the ultimate scare the pants off me place, and maybe that's why for me i did not experience anything that really got me going or was unexplainable. The evening started for my team in the dining room, not much happened in that room except for a laptop that was on flickered a couple of times and then went completely off, didn't really seem that paranormal as modern technology can have a mind of its own or the power lead which later on was found not to be plugged in could have explained this behaviour. Nothing else really happened for me in this room as much the same as the rest of the rooms visited, I even sat out in the upper floor hall way on my own for a bit (something I would normally be quite on edge about) but i felt fine and never experienced anything in that vigil (2) either. The temperature was so could though I'm not sure I was fully aware of anything that was/maybe going on around me. Anyway nether the less this was a remarkable place to visit and I thank the owner for letting us in to investigate.
