Time of Investigation –10.30pm – 3am

Introduction

We have investigated Abbey Hall before and were delighted that they agreed to allow us a follow up investigation. Last visit, we experienced some strange things including a pen top being thrown at the team and strange, unexplainable noises in the entrance hall. We were eager to get back in and pleased that Alex (Abbey Hall’s caretaker) and two of her friends were able to join us on vigils.

History

Abbey Hall community centre is situated in the pretty village town of Netley Abbey in Southampton. This was a small investigation arranged by the small group of members attending, as it was somewhere they had all talked about. Netleys community centre had always been the Jubilee Hall until that was demolished and the new Abbey Hall was built as its replacement in the 1990’s. Netleys Abbey itself is famous for being haunted but when we heard from people that visited the hall that it also appeared to be haunted we could not help getting in contact with the Parish council to see if they would allow us a visit. As is so often the case people tend to presume new buildings can not be haunted yet when you realise the ancient waterside land it is built on, with the abbey close you tend to think differently about it. We knew for a fact that certain occurrences at the hall had forced staff to take a different approach in regards to ghosts and on one occasion a blessing / clearance was done to put peoples minds at rest. Does something still remain in the hall because of the land it was built on? Our thanks go to Alex and Hound Parish Council for making our visit possible.

Personal Investigator Reports

Julie Harwood

We had such a good time last time we visited Abbey Hall that I was delighted we were allowed back to follow up the investigation.

I was in a team with Rachel and Rob and we had a guest with us as well, Theresa. Our first vigil was in the under stage area and the corridors at the back of the building. To say it was a wild and stormy night would be an understatement. The wind and rain were lashing against the building and being at the bottom of a slope the water was rushing in torrents down the car park towards the hall. It was very very important that we took all of this in to account when conducting our investigation and more importantly in this area as it was facing the back of the building which was taking the more severe lashing. We settled in parts of the corridor first and began calling out. Rob and Rachel who were sat by the window heard a loud cracking noise from the steps up to the stage and then on calling out more, more similar noises were heard by all the team. While Rob was investigating these Rachel caught a small light anomaly in the area. I was also sure that I heard footsteps behind me (I was sat on the steps out to the hall) but no one else heard these so I think it may have been movement in the hall (another team) that I heard as I was closest to this area. We decided to go under the stage and I stood by a small keyboard. I called out and asked for the keyboard to be played. The keyboard was obviously not on but I trained my camcorder on the keys in hope that I would see them move. Only a couple of seconds after this a small light anomaly travelled up the side of the keyboard and over the keys. It may not have pushed any of the keys down but I found it interesting this happened immediately after I had called out.

Our second vigil was in the main hall. Rachel and I sat at the back of the hall facing the stage. We sat the KII meter on the table in front of us and called out trying to get a response. When we called out the KII was lighting up. At the same time Rob and Theresa were watching the DVR camera set up on the laptop and were reporting light anomalies while we were calling out. I decided to ask for a bit more and asked that if something was affecting the KII that it stop and move something a bit more impressive. After a couple of minutes I was sure I saw the wireless camera on the stage move. I could not be 100% sure but it looked like the ring of led’s on the camera had distorted. The camera was quite a way from us but was facing us so we could see the led’s quite clearly. To check this I called out again and asked Rachel to watch the camera on the stage. Rachel said she was pretty sure she saw it move (for again the same reason – the led’s). We were amazed but still a bit sceptical that this was happening. That was until Rob and Theresa confirmed that when we said the camera moved, the picture the camera was transmitting was also moving on the laptop. Rob can confirm that where Rachel and I were sat, we could not see the laptop and yet we were able to tell Rob, just from looking at the camera’s led’s when the picture was going to go up and when it was going to come back down. It was an amazing vigil and once we had stopped calling out the camera did appear to stop moving. We double checked the camera’s at the end of the vigil. They are very hard to move up and down and so we can safely say that this was not the cause. Even if it had been, it would explain the camera moving down (gravity) but not then pulling back up (defying gravity).

For the next vigil all the teams gathered in the main hall and we completed a silent vigil. The first time we investigated Abbey Hall this proved very successful so we were all quite interested to see if this would prove fruitful again. We had 2 led alarm clocks and a piece of paper each and a pen. Every time we felt, saw, thought or heard anything we had to write it down.

Below are the results of my silent vigil.
1.21am Got the name Maurice pop into my head
1.22am Room seemed to get darker then lightened again
1.24am Groan to my left (towards double doors)
1.26am Bang to my right (by stage)
1.28am Breeze over my right arm
1.29am Looked to my right and thought someone was stood behind Rob’s chair – heart in mouth moment! I think it was just a shadow of another Member as they moved slightly.
1.30am Thump in middle of where we are all sat (could not see a cause)
1.32am Got the names Edward & Louise pop into my head
1.33am Feel like the team are being watched
1.34am Start to feel a bit intimidated
1.40am Get the song “Hi Ho Silver Lining” in my head
1.41am Creak from stage area – tables?

Our last vigil after a quick break to compare notes on the silent vigil, was a team séance back in the main hall. We set up a table and took a glass in with us to try glass divination. Unfortunately even though the glass seemed to move slightly at the start (mm’s) it provided no other movement. We did try table tipping then but unfortunately this also proved unfruitful. The one thing that seemed to crop up was the feeling of being watched while we were in the hall.

Again another interesting night at Abbey Hall as we noticed one of our trigger objects (a key on the stage) had moved a couple of cm’s. We have no explanation for this as no one went on to the stage during the night. We tried to see if vibration would affect things on the stage and this proved not to be the case as despite a member jumping up and down repeatedly in front of the stage for at least 3-4 minutes nothing on the stage was actually affected by this movement.

Abbey Hall, despite its un daunting appearance is somewhere I will never tire of investigating. I hope the team can return in the future and thanks once again to Alex and our guests for making our visit possible.

Alison Crocker

Arriving at Abbey Hall my first impressions were that it looked very unassuming and ordinary. The location of the building is almost touching Southampton Water. It is my own belief that water enhances psychic/paranormal energies so I knew we were in for a good night.

I arrived an hour early (thanks to my new satnav which got me there very easily!!) so sat and tuned in to the building whilst sitting in my car in the car park. I was immediately drawn to the foyer, toilet and entrance way, almost slicing off the rest of the building. In my minds eye I saw a tunnel of trees that led from my position in the car park down diagonally towards the water taking in this area. I also felt that the ground beneath me should have been a lot lower. The time period I was linking in with was around the time of a local plague, late 1600's to early 1700's.

Whilst the team were setting up I sat quietly in the main hall and whilst I was looking to my left, I saw in my peripheral vision a black shape coming out of the wall on my right at the back of the hall. This vision only lasted a split second but it was long enough for me to see this shape. I felt it was male and only the top half of him was visible as when he was alive the floor would have been much lower. He had something wrong with his back/left leg and walked hunched and crookedly. This injury was a result of bending over constantly whilst working and having a physical job. He didn't rest and his job was his life.

Once inside and with all team members in their groups the caretaker lady, Maureen and Marie and I sat in the foyer. Whilst sitting quietly, I was immediately drawn to the kitchen area and knew that anyone working in there would feel uneasy, also the foyer area by the windows towards the back of the building. Again I picked up the hunched man from before. Linking with him I saw a boat, a small wooden boat and a shack by the water. I believed this to be his home. I feel people working in the kitchen would experience corner of the eye phenomena, noises and a feeling of not being alone, as if a person alone would expect to see a shadow or shape at every turn.

Our next location was the meeting room at the front of the building. This was cold and uninviting. The others did a glass divination. I sat and tuned in and saw the premises being used for meetings but those of a secret nature like Masonic etc.

Our next vigil was the basement area under the stage. This was truly horrible. I sensed immediately that it had been flooded and the caretaker confirmed it was badly flooded 10 years ago. The caretaker lady had informed us that that area was used a burial ground for monks, no time was given. She told us this during our walk to that room but nothing else! I also sensed a burial ground for ordinary folk not just monks. I feel the monks would have been buried around 13/14th century but then other folk were put on top around 17th century and I feel it was connected to a local plague that was there at that time. I would love to be more specific with the times but I'm unable to be at this time.

We all had a turn with Maureen’s dowsing rods which proved inconclusive. I also had the image of someone being shut in this room and panicking. I feel it was a lady and that it was fairly recent, say within the past few years. The poor woman was terrified!! I sensed spirit approaching from the back of the room, standing huddled, families that had died as a result of the plague. None came forward though but it was pitiful sight. We were also all aware of movement on one occasion on the other side of the door back out to the corridor. We were on our own down there. Horrible room - glad to get out!!

We held a short vigil on the stairs just outside this basement area. Equally as horrible! I picked up on a local man who has connection with the area and that building. He was tall, slim and wore a suit, thin faced and pensive looking. I feel that area was somehow connected to him. I asked if the hall had been built in his memory and I also saw he had links with a social/British legion club in the area. We all heard the doors at the top of the stairs rattle. There was no draft, wind, or another reason we could think of why this would be. I also picked up a young male that had died after an accident with a tree in the immediate area. Time period about 1970's. Really uncomfortable area!

We then all took part in a group silent séance in the main hall. We took notebooks and pens and positioned ourselves back to back and facing clocks to we could note the time down and what we sensed. Here are my notes:
Started at 1.20am. I mentally asked for spirit people to touch other team members heads.
At the same time saw in my head the image of hair cutting and head shaving and people lining up.
1.23am Sensation of something around my neck; did they tie up plague victims before burial??
1.24am Heard the word Carmelite.
1.27am Footstep in corridor heard
1.29am pain in left leg below calf
1.31am Heard the words noggin or nobbing
1.35am Stars on the ceiling, thought about sky watching and astronomy? Wondered if someone who's buried there was an astronomer, but not as we imagine today. Of course, we have no way of finding out.
1.40am Saw a small hamlet, village, rats/mice eating through the sacks of wheat. Time period about 1700's.
1.42am Saw huddles of people in a silent meditation....monks as they were wearing robes I think.

I enjoyed this investigation and thank you to the caretaker who bravely stayed with us for a few hours.

Mark Wright

"It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents, except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the A35, rattling along the top of my Peugeot, and fiercely agitating the scanty light of my head lamps that struggled against the darkness."
Edward Bulwer-Lytton's phrase (along with a few amendments!) perfectly sums up the evening, it was the kind of night when you wish that your car had one of those Land Rover snorkels on, the kind of night when you start to wonder whether swimming to you destination would actually be quicker than driving.

After an "interesting" drive which mainly consisted of me demisting my screen every 30 seconds & almost drowning in the spray on the motorway we eventually arrived at 10pm. I think that Julie, Rachel & I set a world record in unpacking the kit from the car & getting it into the venue. After a fairly rapid setup of all of the cameras, trigger objects, laser lines etc etc we split up into our groups and got the investigation underway.

Vigil 1 - Main Hall
I was in Maria's team which also consisted of Emma, and one of our guests Vicky. After taking base readings with the temperature gun, which measured a steady 20.5c - 20.9c around the room and taking reference pictures so we could see what sort of affects the DVR camera's IR had on our cameras, we started to call out.

Initially we got no responses other than the sounds of the building settling, but then we started to hear noises on the stage, sometimes in response to what we were saying. Whilst I was standing fairly close to the stage, I saw what looked like the hunched over figure of somebody gliding across the floor in front of the stage, this only lasted half a second then it was gone.

During one of the silent moments of the investigation my walkie-talkie went off and we could hear a garbled mans voice and a very faint woman's voice. I radioed Julie to see if she had heard the same on her walkie-talkie. She hadn't, but confirmed she had heard mine through the door in the other room. About 10 minutes later this happened again but was slightly clearer. I was able to make out the words "cash" and "card" so I'm assuming it was a takeaway and not anything paranormal! Switching to another channel stopped this from happening again.

After a break it was on to the second vigil of the night.

Vigil 2 - The entrance foyer
I found this one quite tricky. There was a lot of outside noise thanks to the ever increasing storm. We did however get a very definite response to a question when I called out. I asked if there was a female present, and could she knock twice to let us know she was there. I hadn't even finished saying "let us know she was here" when there was a very definite knock on the ceiling above me followed by a second knock a few seconds later. Whilst we couldn't rule out the noises outside, the two knocks seemed to be a lot closer than the noise of the storm.

After a while we moved into the meeting room to try glass divination and table tipping. During the glass divination we got no response at all until our guest Vicky tried calling out. While the glass didn't move, we all heard very clearly the sound of a door being opened from where we had just come from in the foyer. I went to look and there was nothing there. I also checked with the other teams to see if they had been through, they hadn't. We continued calling out and again hear the noise of a door being opened, once again I checked with the other teams, and once again they hadn't moved or heard a thing.

On to our third vigil of the night.

Vigil 3 - Main hall silent vigil
Earlier in the night we had set up two LCD clocks on opposite walls, we then arranged chairs, back to back facing the clocks. The idea behind this is that a silent vigil is just that, silent, no calling out, no taking photos, just sitting in silence and noting down the time and anything we saw/heard. The clocks were used so we didn't have to ask someone for a time check every time thus prompting auto suggestion, where someone asks for the time and another person after hearing this also thinks they might have heard something just because the other person asked for the time.

The following is a list of the notes that I took, and whether they tallied up with other people's notes.
01:20 - The name "Sarah" popped into my head for no reason.
01:22 - Heard Shuffling near the main halls entrance.
01:23 - Heard a "moan" (this was later confirmed by everyone else in the group).
01:24 - Saw a movement between Vicky's & my feet.
01:27 - Heard a thud near the door I was sitting in front of.
01:29 - Sudden Chill.
01:31 - Heard a tap near the stage.
01:34 - Felt heavy and weighed down, almost like I was being pushed into my chair.
01:41 - Got the word "Dove" in my head".
01:42 - Heard child's laughter.
After the vigil we compared notes and discovered a few similarities between the group’s notes.

Vigil 4 - Main Hall glass divination
I always look forward to trying glass divination, purely because of the results we have had in the past. We all gathered around the table and five of us put a finger on the upturned glass and started calling out. Almost immediately the glass twisted to my right, it wasn't pushed or moved in a straight line, it just kind of twisted which would be impossible for a person to do with one finger resting lightly on it.

We got a lot of movement, but strangely not in response to our questions. After about 5 minutes of on/off movement it ceased altogether and nothing notable happened for the rest of the vigil.

This was my first time at Abbey Hall, and after a damp start I had a very enjoyable night and would like to visit it again as I believe that the site has more stories to tell.

Maureen Taylor

Prior to the beginning of this vigil I got out my investigation kit as usual and checked the state of my camera, only to find that the newly charged batteries in it were quite dead (in fact, so dead that when I got home they just wouldn’t charge up again and had to be disposed of), I put in a new set of fully charged batteries, and these too were flat. A third set (not rechargeable) wasn’t much better, but I did manage to take half a dozen or so photos before they gave out. My pair of walkie-talkies, which had not long been charged up also refused to work.

I’d chosen to put my bags (camera, camcorder etc) in the corner of the kitchen by the urns, so read on...

Vigil 1 – Kitchen and foyer.
We began by spending a few minutes sitting in the area just outside the kitchen. I wasn’t feeling anything very much here and Alison said that she felt there was something going on connected with the very corner of the kitchen where I’d dumped my belongings.

She said that she felt there was a man who came through this very area quite often, that he was either a hunchback or that some part of his body was more developed than the rest of it for some reason, and that he had something to do with the water, but she couldn’t be sure what it was. At that time I had a mental image of some huts near the waterside with fishing nets draped from them to dry – possibly fishermen’s huts, and that maybe this man had some connection with those.

Vigil 2 – backstage and under stage
None of the team felt happy in this area. One of the group, sorry, can’t remember who, possibly Alison, asked if there had ever been any flooding here (we had one of the staff with us), we were told that it was quite likely that flooding had taken place in the past as it was so near to the water.

Though we were all aware of something going on here, some sort of collective energy, none of us were able to pick out any definite individual. We tried my dowsing rods, but as is often the case, they didn’t work very well for me, so Alison tried using them and got much better results. We asked if whoever, whether one or more, was with us under the stage area where we were sitting could move the rods to point to where there were - the rods moved outwards in diagonally opposite directions, but that was about all we got from them, and we presumed that we had at least 2 spirits with us, though they seemed unwilling to communicate with us.

We moved to the backstage area and sat on the steps. One of the team asked if there had ever been an accident involving trees or a tree close by, and our member of staff said she didn’t know but would try and find out, so we await a reply...

p>

Silent vigil – started at 1.20 am.
We all sat in the main hall, on chairs arranged so that none of us could see what or when anyone else wrote anything down. The idea was that we write down anything we heard, felt, thought etc and make a note of the time it occurred so that we could all compare notes afterwards.

1.19 I don’t like the feeling of the doorway to my left and slightly behind me, feeling apprehensive, almost as if someone is about to burst through it.
1.22 My left ear (closest to the door mentioned above) is very cold, but I can feel no draughts anywhere. The space behind me – between me and the stage (and the door to my left) feels far too large, feels as if it should be smaller – am I sensing something of an earlier structure on the same site?
1.25 I hear noises from behind and to my left (towards the stage), near the stage door – like shuffling footsteps
1.26 I want to get out of my chair and move away from here, I feel as if I’ve just been poked in the back. Very oddly I also feel as if I’m going to hiccup very loudly and even start to do so, but manage to suppress it.
1.34 I hear what might be heavy breathing behind my left shoulder
1.40 A loud creak type noise from the stage

Conclusion

There seem to be lots of things going on in the building, but it all seems very shadowy in comparison to happenings on many other investigations. We would start picking up on things, but never got a great deal of information come through – all very tantalising. It would be great to be able to visit again some time and see if we get any more and if it ties up with what we got this time.

Marie Holder

Team: Marie, Maureen, Alison and Alex Guy (caretaker)

Introduction

It was great to finally return to this location and I was especially excited about the fact that we were going to be doing a silent vigil again as this proved to be very successful last time we tried it.
I arrived at the location and was met by Julie, Rachel and Mark. Alex, the caretaker and her guests arrived as did the other members of the team so we made our way into the building.
After all the equipment had been set up we split up into our teams and made our way to our first vigil area.

Vigil 1 – Foyer, kitchen and meeting room
We spent a short while in the foyer and after calling out and getting no responses we moved into the kitchen as Alison was picking up on a presence in there. When standing by the sink in the corner of the kitchen it did feel as though we were being watched and I did not want to spend much time in there. We then moved into the meeting room.

We decided to try glass divination in this room but got no response, I also did not feel anything in this area.

Vigil 2 – Under stage and back stage area
As soon as I entered this area I felt very uncomfortable and against my better judgement I sat with my back to the far end of the room which we all felt was the area with the most activity, none of the team were comfortable with the lights off in this area so we kept them on. Other members of the team tried the diving rods and got some movement. Alison was picking up on a lot, especially in the area I didn’t like. We then moved to the backstage area. I sat on the stairs and again felt as though there was somebody directly behind me. I didn’t like this area much either.

Vigil 3 – Silent vigil in the hall
This is a list of events I encountered during the vigil:

1.24 Heard grumbling sound (somebody’s stomach?)
1.25 Heard tap coming from door to hall
1.26 Heard knock coming from one of the curtains
1.32 Heard a tap coming from the ceiling
1.38 Saw flash of light coming from the stage. No torches on at the time
1.39 Felt an ache in my right hand
1.41 Tap heard coming from the stack of tables
1.42 Strange prickly feeling round my throat area as if I was wearing rough material that was irritating my skin
1.44 Thought I saw somebody walk past the door in the hall

After this vigil we all got together and compared what we had experienced with surprising results.

Vigil 4 – Séance
We all got together in the main hall and conducted a séance. We decided to try glass divination using letters and numbers. We had very small movements of the glass but nothing significant. After calling out a few times and not getting any responses I was feeling a bit despondent, however, when calling out again the table moved quite significantly without anybody touching it which, for me, was the highlight of the evening. It was obvious that nobody was touching the table yet it moved by itself, so what caused it to move?

Conclusion
I, again, enjoyed my time at Abbey Hall and would like to thank our host, Alex, for allowing us to investigate this location once again.

Once again the silent vigil was very successful and is something I would like to try at other locations. The table movement in the main hall was pretty amazing but my favourite area has to be under the stage as although I could not bring myself to turn the light off (even with another three people in the room which is very unusual for me) it was a very interesting area but not one I would like to tackle on my own. Maybe next time!

Maria Street

I didn’t hesitate to sign up for this investigation. Having experienced some unusual activity there on a previous visit, I was keen to re visit this modern community centre set in the village of Netley. I travelled the whole 4 or 5 miles there with Rob in some pretty stormy weather. We met up with our guests, Alex, Theresa and Vicky and split into our three teams. I was with Mark and Emma, along with Vicky, who joined us. We started in the main hall where the temperature remained an ambient 21c. The hall proved to be pretty quiet this time around, although we did have to ask the team behind the stage if they had made a noise a couple of times including hearing a sound like a cough. The answer came back that they had been still and quiet both times. We also heard shuffling and a thud was heard after Mark knocked twice and asked for a noise in return. Mark was also feeling hot and cold. The temperature remained constant however. We tried calling out and had left several trigger objects in the vicinity and asked for them to be moved as this had proved successful on a previous visit.

Our next vigil was in the main foyer/kitchen and the meeting room. We started by the kitchen and called out. There were several taps coming from the outer foyer area where the entrance to the meeting room was situated, so we decide d to take advantage of the table in the meeting room to try a glass divination. This did not prove successful however although it did seem as if the glass was at least trying to move. Mark thought he could feel the table move, so we moved on to table tipping, but apart from feeling the odd tremble, there was nothing more. The only possible activity from this room was the odd tap from the corner, although, we did hear a huge thump towards the end. Checking with the other teams, we found they were not responsible for this sound.

After a quick break, we joined the other teams in the main hall for a silent vigil. With pens and notebooks in hand, we silently noted any odd noises, random thoughts or feelings, or any possible sightings. These are my recordings:

1.23am Name of Brown
1.24am Name of Charlie and I hear ‘Let’s do the Cha Cha Cha’
1.28am Name of Carruthers – loosely connected to WW11
1.33am Get the feeling of a school room
1.41am Loud crack heard, maybe a chair?
1.42am Get the feeling of a busy street market, in particular a fruit and veg stall
1.43am Get the name of Rose or Rosemary. Is it the name, the flower or the flower or the herb?

The vigil ended two minutes later and it was time to pack up. On checking the trigger object experiments it was exciting to realise that the gun on the stage had moved quite considerably as had another object left on the table near to the entrance doors of the hall. All in all another very enjoyable night if a little wet and windy! Thank you to Marie for organising it and to Alex for being a lovely host. Here’s to the next one!!

Rachel Steadman

I was really glad to be invited to visit this location again, as although it doesn’t look like the typical haunted location I had a fantastic time the first time we visited.

Vigil 1 - Behind and under stage
Team - Julie, Rob and guest

We settled in various places in the corridor behind the stage and almost immediately taps and creaks where heard by all of the team members. Not long after this I was lucky enough to catch a small light anomaly on the video camera moving from the window towards Rob sitting on the stairs to the stage door. After hearing noises from the store room under the stage we decided to go in and have a look. Julie asked if any spirit was present and if so could they press keys on the keyboard (even though it was not on). Shortly after asking she caught two light anomalies on video over the keyboard. Some other small noises where heard in hear but nothing of major importance.

Vigil 2 - main Hall
Team Julie, Rob and guest

We all sat towards the back of the hall, after wandering around to get a feel of the room. Rob thought he could see lights, but it was a little still to start with. Julie and I sat by a table with a K2 meter, Rob and our guest for the evening sat and watched the laptop and commented on the light anomalies they were seeing when Julie was asking questions, at which point Julie noticed the Camera that was on the stage appeared to be moving (there is a ring of infra red lights which are visible around the camera). We asked for the camera to move and it did appear to do so, Rob confirmed the picture was moving, this continued to happen for around five minutes, Julie and I were able to tell Rob when the picture had changed. We can find no reasonable explanation for this. Rob was sat with his back to us so we could not see the laptop screen from where we were sitting. On reviewing the camera footage, it seems to be interference but it only happened while Julie and I were calling out, the rest of the nights footage is perfect.

Silent vigil
Main Hall
All investigators and guests present

Start 1:20
1:23 - Pop/click sound by double doors
1:23 - Name Angelo
1:24 - Groan noise by double doors
1:25 - Single tap by the 3 doors
1:26 - Bang by stack of tables to left of stage
1:28 - Long deep exhale of breathe
1:30 - Thud in centre of hall
1:32 - Creak from ceiling
1:34 - Angelo, Angelo, Angelo
1:36 - 3 footsteps from foyer/corridor
1:38 - Image of a raven or similar large black bird
1:41 - Loud creak from stack of tables to left of stage

After the silent vigil we tried a séance and table tipping although little was to be gained from this.
