GHOSTBUSTERS HELP RAISE HOTEL SPIRITS
Taken from Western Gazette - 10th November 2005

A Macabre secret from the history of an 18th-Century hotel in Sherborne was unearthed by a team of ghostbusters investigating sightings of a dead child. Rumours of supernatural goings-on have long haunted the Antelope Hotel in Greenhill with tales of a ghostly child stalking the bedrooms and ethereal orbs floating through the air.

Southern Paranormal UK, a team of ghost watchers based in the south, visited the hotel last month and confirmed the fears of hotel staff.

A series of unexplained phenomenon plagued the team and the group made contact with a former employee who revealed a dreadful secret she had taken to the grave.

Hotel co-owner Nick Gregory said: "I'd heard all the rumours about the hotel being haunted but I'd never actually seen a ghost myself but I'm very open-minded about these things."

"I have had a number of staff say they have seen things and two members of cleaning staff have refused to clean one of the rooms because they say it is haunted, so I thought it would be quite interesting to see if they found anything."

The team of seven investigators visited the hotel on 9 October after being contacted by two guests who said they had encountered the ghost of a child while staying in room 101 at the hotel.

Eager to investigate, the team contacted Mr Gregory for permission to come to the hotel with their video cameras and heat sensors.

After setting up camp late on the Sunday night in the reportedly two most-haunted rooms, 101 and 200, it was not long before they witnessed several strange incidents.

Julie Harwood, senior paranormal investigator, said she experienced the sensation of a child sitting next to her on the bed and witnessing an unexplained orb on a video camera they had set up in the room.

When her team moved into room 200 they reported an unexplained drop in temperature and saw movement outside the door, even though staff assured the team no-one had been walking around on the top floor that night.

The most dramatic incident occurred during a seance in the restaurant when the team made contact with a former hotel worker by the name of Florence.

She revealed to the investigators that she had done something terrible to her twin but refused to say what it was, only that she had got away with it.

In a report sent to the hotel last week Julie Harwood said it was one of the most exhilarating investigations she had done.

"There is something I cannot explain there," she said.

"I would love to return to the hotel and hope that Nick would allow us another visit."

Mr Gregory said: "I'm still not convinced by the report but I think all the staff have become a bit more sensitised since they've been here."

"I never had a problem being in the restaurant before but now I get goose bumps and one of the girls who lives on the top floor has started running to bed at night."
